If you are looking for an alternative to Tapcon, check out the video below on the Perma Grip Anchor. They are super simple to use and don’t strip or snap like Tapcon can sometimes. They are available in a variety of sizes and are exterior coated so they can be used outside as well as on treated lumber.
Installation Of The Perma-Grip
First select the correct length anchor. Add 3/4″ to an 1″ to the material thickness. So for your most common application, a 2×4 (actual thickness 1-/12″), you would use a 2-1/2″ nail. For 3/4″ plywood, you would use a 1-1/2″. For thin metal like drywall track, the shortest size would be used, 1-1/8″. To install the Perma Grip anchor, just like the Tapcon, you will need to pre drill a hole. For the Perma Grip, you will need to drill a 3/16″ hole about an inch deeper than your intended anchor embedment which is typically 3/4″ to 1-1/4″. Then just slam it home. That is what makes this such a great alternative to Tapcon. No stripping or snapping. One down side, you can’t unscrew your mistake! So there you have it. If you are looking for a fast easy alternative to Tapcon, check out the Perma-Grip Concrete nail.
